Why I Quit The Keto Diet

Why I Quit The Keto Diet

hey friends I’m Heather pace and today I’m sharing why I am stopping the ketogenic diet after five weeks if you saw my previous video about why I was doing this I was so excited about the results that I’ve had for my gut health and it take has taken away my sugar cravings so that’s been really remarkable so then why the hell am i stopping now well I’m gonna be sharing the pros and cons with you today and you know maybe this will help you if you’re curious about a ketogenic diet or maybe you’re having problems on it right now the same ones that I am I’m a chef and a recipe developer which requires me to be in the kitchen all the time around food all the time tasting food all the time food is my life so that doesn’t work very well when you’re on a very strict diet I kind of had to rearrange my life for the past five weeks to fit it into the keto lifestyle on the positive it inspired me to create a bunch of sugar-free keto treats and now I’m creating an e-book as a result so that’s pretty cool but yeah I had to put a lot of my work on hold or kind of shift and change things and then at one point I started doing my regular recipe development again because I mean I couldn’t put it on hold forever and then I had all this amazing food that I couldn’t eat so that was really frustrating so I was like giving the food away and you know thinking like oh you know that would be nice to eat right now but no all my sugar cravings went away which is kind of a miracle considering I have a mega sweet tooth and I’ve built my whole career around making desserts and eating them and just the other day I realized oh my gosh I haven’t had banana and ice cream I haven’t gone out for like we have amazing vegan ice cream in my city I haven’t had like fruity smoothie bowls or chocolate peanut butter treats and and all kinds of things that I’m used to and I realized well like I haven’t even been missing them so that’s pretty remarkable I’d say now I have been enjoying my chocolate but it’s sugar-free chocolate it’s nice to see that I don’t need to be eating as many treats as I was before socially it had its pros and cons it was easy for me to find a keto meal when dining out that was no problem alike we’re so lucky to live in a time where you can get a paleo meal meal vegan gluten free keto whatever you want that wasn’t the issue it was the wine especially when it came to my birthday week I had celebrations all throughout the week and I wanted to enjoy some wine which I loved so much but then I found myself feeling guilty and I also went to salt spring island there was a brand new vegan soft serve place and I wanted to try it because you know foodie Heather wants to try those special things and so I had it so the wine and and the soft-serve those were my slur jiz and I felt guilty and that was because I really wanted to do this perfectly give it my all and that really wasn’t so good for me because I’ve done so much work around healing food issues and you know prior to going on the keto diet I wouldn’t have thought twice before having that soft serve or having the wine and so now I didn’t feel so good you know I didn’t like feeling that guilt it pulled me away from intuitive eating and into the box of key to approved foods so generally speaking I didn’t always feel totally satisfied because I had to eat Kido and so therefore sometimes I was overeating wasn’t feeling satisfied that’s really not good that’s not good for us I don’t think then I got into researching everything keto online and maybe got a little bit obsessed I was listening to everyone and anyone all the experts and you know a lot of them really encouraged fasting and I felt that that was not for me so I didn’t get into that I listened to my inner guidance on it and then one big health expert was saying you know don’t eat more than half an avocado a day and then I started feeling wrong for eating my at least one avocado a day and then I stopped myself from feeling that way because I was like eh okay that’s ridiculous like this is a high-fat diet if I can’t have one avocado a day that something’s wrong um but you know it just goes to show like there’s so much information out there and at the end of the day like we do need to listen to our own inner guidance I felt good eating an avocado you know but I also realized that I didn’t need to be doing so much freaking research I needed to be listening to myself and I think that is like the moment one of the most important takeaways and now I’m heading to San Francisco for a girls trip for five days and i am so excited i’ve never been there before i was gonna try and do keto while there and then i realized a few days ago i don’t think so like heather you’re going to this amazing city that has incredible food why am i gonna box myself in i just i can’t you know i just want to be able to enjoy instead of boxing myself in only to stop quito in a month for example and then great that it didn’t enjoy all those Foods in San Francisco you know what I mean to sum it all up I have to say that this diet is way too restrictive if number one you’ve had a past of disordered eating or number two you are a foodie both of those are me so this is not the plan for me but honestly I learned so much and I’m really glad that I walked the experience you know I like I said before it really did wonders for my gut and I kind of think that maybe fiber is part of the equation for me so by going keto I actually drastically reduced the fiber in my diet and I’m wondering if that really made a huge difference so as I leave and transitioned out I’m just gonna kind of play around with that and see you know how I feel see how that has impacted me and I realize I can do with way less sugar and sweets in my diet in my life I think that this diet might work for somebody who eats to live I live to eat but if you don’t really care that much and you’re just happy with you know the some guideline or meal plan and I think it might work fine for you but it’s certainly not the plan for me and you know so many of us women have battled with eating disorders and body image issues so I would go very cautiously if you’re gonna dive into a keto diet just my two cents just my experience but yeah it was it was great to to give it a try and I’ve learned so much like I said so I’d love to hear from you have you been on a ketogenic diet and what was your experience please leave me a comment below and I’d love to chat with you okay see you next time bye bye
