What to eat on the Ketogenic Diet | Our Keto food staples-Ashley Witmer


hi guys Ashley Whitmer here I want to go over with you today what I think my personal favorite keto staples are a [Music] really just wanted to make a video that basically gave people a better understanding as to what the staples are for me when I go to the grocery store things that I think are the most important foods to make sure you have in the house if you want to get started with more ketogenic lifestyle get started with a ketogenic diet which is high fat moderate protein and low carb I just want to get people started right with the things that I think are the basic groceries that are good to have in the house to make sure that you get started on the right foot so this list has really no particular order I’m just going to rattle off the things that I think you can write down and things that you can pick up from the store I’ll also link below in the description not only my link to get in to my free keto community for recipes and support and tips and also I will link below a copy of this list so that you can go ahead and see for yourself visually the kind of things that I’m talking about so some of the most important things that I think you should have when you go and you’re getting started with a ketogenic lifestyle grass-fed butter I get my name all these you can get it at Walmart you can get it at basically any grocery store I like to use Kerrygold butter once you use it you won’t want to go to anything else because it’s so much higher quality I feel like so I carry gold butter is something that you should definitely have in your fridge or any grass-fed butter and it’s funny because butter is something that I used to avoid but now I I’m adding it to everything I’m adding it and anything that I’m cooking I’m adding it to my coffee I’m adding it to literally everything because of the health benefits in that healthy fat cream cheese is another thing that I use as a staple in this house I have it all the time I’ll buy a couple bricks at a time um cheese’s like hard cheeses I will buy the block as much as I can and shred it myself or do what I need to with the block because of some of the things that they add in when they have to package it shredded so I try and buy the block cheese as much as I can or the string cheese is great for snacking so I always have cheese in my fridge heavy whipping cream is another wonderful thing to have as a staple you can use there for cooking you can add it to your coffee it’s really something again that I used to avoid in the past because I thought it was so bad for me but I was so misled and so uneducated and I’m so glad now that I know that heavy whipping cream is something that you can use a lot at home and it’s totally okay as far as vegetables go green vegetables are something that I try and stick to the most I will buy a lot of salad a lot of spring mix a lot of romaine lettuce spinach green peppers are great for dipping and eating just as a snack or celery cucumbers I like to get broccoli brussel sprouts asparagus a lot of cauliflower I had a lot of radishes so those are some vegetables that I tend to have most and this right now going into summer I like to have a lot of zucchini and squash as well because it’s so fresh and it just tastes delicious so those are some vegetables avocados is something that I have a lot of just eating them I like to fry them up in the pan with olive oil or add them over a salad or just eat them with a spoon if I’m being honest with a little sea salt and pepper it’s delicious so avocados is something that I have here a lot and then I also like to have strawberries and berries on hand those live fruits that I generally stick to if I really want something sweet that’s there is an option something that I eat in moderation so that’s something to think about having as a staple when you do want something sweet I like to have nuts in the cover I like almonds I like macadamia nuts those are you have to watch the portions but I think it’s something that’s absolutely amazing as a staple as far as meats go I like to chicken wings or thighs I like to get ground beef I do 80/20 with that because I want to fattier cuts again something different that I didn’t used to do I do like to have pepperoni onion in the fridge for snacking or for the kids for lunches or whatever I like to make pepperoni chips in the microwave and with that I do like to have lunch meat option salami or ham in the fridge to just grab and go and he does a snack or half for lunch so that’s something that I do like to have as well as a staple in the house eggs is something that we go through a lot of in this house my kids love scrambled eggs I will hard boil the eggs I make egg salad so eggs is definitely a staple we like to have bacon and sausage in the house as well because we do a lot of breakfast for dinner options and the kids love eggs bacon and sausage our whole family loves it so it’s something that’s great for the ketogenic lifestyle and something to have in a house is a staple as well I like to do olive oil for my salads and for cooking and I really like to have bone broth as well it’s something that’s fast easy so many health benefits absolutely Kiel approved and it’s really good to have on hand for different things cooking snacking whatever you need I think the only other things snack wise that I like to have on hand would be pork rinds it did take me a couple times to find a brand and kind that I like I do like the spicy ones I like to dip it in guacamole dip it in sour cream which is another good staple cream cheese it’s great just to snack on when you want something you know that that chip that salty that crunch you get that with the pork rinds and it’s completely keto approved other than that I think that that’s pretty much good for starting the ketogenic lifestyle the only other thing I would say maybe is like an almond butter or a natural peanut butter if you’re careful with your portion sizing portion sizing with that it’s nice to spread a little bit on some celery and just have it as a snap or bake with it because snacks snack attacks do have and it’s a real thing and it’s nice to have the almond butter or the creamy natural peanut butter it’s nice to have that as an option I think those are really my staples a lot of that you can get really cheap Walmart all these Target um you can get a lot of keto staples for a very low price and it’s really not something that’s hard to start off and do there’s not many things you have to really be really careful and avoid the two main things that you’re trying to avoid really is sugars and carbs so just checking your labels really quick sometimes you think something is healthy because it says a little fad or low-calorie or anything fat-free you’re not looking for that here you’re looking for the healthy fats and you don’t want the sugars or the cars so keeping that in mind while you’re grocery shopping is really helpful as well hopefully
