[Music] hey guys before we get into the video I do want to make a note that I’m just sharing my personal weight loss journey and plan I’m not a medical professional dietitian or nutritionist and please consult your own health care provider or expert before you begin any weight loss program hey guys welcome back to my channel and welcome back to another wellness Wednesday video happy September if you are new here my name is Malika and on this channel I talk about all things related to personal finance minimalism and just living an intentional life if you are interested in any of those topics please feel free to subscribe and if you are a subscriber or a current viewer welcome back I really appreciate you being here so today I thought I would share with you kind of a an overview if you will about my new weight loss journey I shared an Aldi haul a grocery haul a few days ago and I kind of alluded to the fact that I’m starting a weight loss journey so um today I thought I’d share a little bit about that with you about two years ago in as a matter of fact it was summer of 2017 I started Weight Watchers probably for the third or fourth time I don’t remember I’ve been on Weight Watchers several times before and it was July 2017 in between July and November of 2017 I lost about 25 pounds on Weight Watchers which was awesome I followed the plan pretty much to the letter the plan has changed several times since then Weight Watchers changes pretty frequently if you’re not familiar with it there are tons and tons of weight watcher followers on YouTube if you’re interested in Weight Watchers I would just say put inter just do a search on YouTube and you’ll find tons of people so I was very successful with it and managed to keep the weight off for over a year and I noticed though that at the beginning of 2019 I started noticing that I was gaining weight I wasn’t I was weighing myself maybe once a week or every two weeks but I started noticing that my clothes were getting tighter and tighter and over the course of the last nine months and there’s no coincidence there I am not pregnant but over the course of the last nine months I’ve regained about 15 pounds I say 12 to 15 pounds because my weight fluctuated so much needless to say I’ve more than half of my weight back from that 25 pound weight loss and I’m not upset about it at first I was I was shocked that I regained that much weight but I know why I regained the weight there have been stressors and things have happened over the past nine months of this year that I’ve just kind of caused me to kind of fall off when it comes to just not overall health and wellness not just weight loss and you know over the course of that time I’ve just become a lot more relaxed in my eating and my exercise because I hadn’t really been exercising consistently either you guys saw back in July I shared a wellness sum every week I shared wellness when Wednesday videos where I was doing weekly workouts so the combination of sedentary lifestyle not really paying attention to what I was eating resulted in regaining the 15 pounds so you know that’s in the past I can’t look back all I can do is move forward so I’ve decided to resume my weight loss efforts and what I’m going to be doing going back to old fashioned to calorie counting and I’m gonna do that using an app called I track bites I track my is a weight loss app similar to my fitness pal similar to spark people I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of spark people but that’s another weight loss community that also has a tracking app component to it what I think is different about it is that it is very friendly towards people who are on Weight Watchers because it has a very similar system where it assigns a value to your foods based on the macronutrients that foods have macronutrients are things like calories fat sugar carbs protein fiber those are macros so I track bites in the same way that Weight Watchers does you take those two things into account and it assigns a value to your foods I’m being careful not to use the words points because points is a Weight Watchers trademark term so it’s important to know that Weight Watchers and itraq vice are not affiliated with each other they are not at all affiliated so but I’m not using any bytes base or points based system I am calorie counting so I am going to take you into the app and show you what the app looks like this is gonna be a very rough high-level if you will over view of it I’m not gonna go into a ton of detail but this is just for anyone who might be interested in tracking with this app so keep watching as I take you into the I track by exact alright guys so here is my profile page in the I track bytes app so it’s just a picture of me and you’ll notice the sections that say my profile weight loss plan reminders and settings and then down here I’ll talk later about the Fitbit feature so let’s go into weight loss plans to see what the different options are for the app alright guys so there are six weight loss plans on the itraq bikes app the first for our better balance keeping keto sugar smart & Conquer cravings so those are the first four you’ll notice the first two have the word Pro next to them and I’ll talk about that later and then the last two are carb conscious and calorie commander those are the six weight loss plans alright guys and as I said there are two of the weight loss plans better balanced and keeping keto are only available for pro-ice track bikes members and that just basically means that you have subscribed and you’ve paid for an annual membership which i think is currently $36 a year so if you’re interested in tracking using those two plans you can pay for the membership but the other four plans might work for you and you may not have to pay but I’ll link information about the pro version below ok so a better balance it’s gonna be the plan that you’ll choose if you want to focus on fresh clean eating so that’s basically your whole foods fruits and vegetables it assigns a bytes value depending on macronutrients calories sugar fat and protein and there’s also 200 additional foods that have a zero by its value which means that you can eat more of those and still be successful and lose weight now it is important to know that zero bytes does not mean zero calories so you still want to practice portion control with any of these plans just because of food has low bytes value or zero doesn’t mean that you should really gorge yourself because that that would sabotage your your weight loss efforts and that you know that there’s something to keep in mind moderation is important no matter what you’re eating so keeping keto is the weight loss plan on I tracked bytes that is great for people who are following a ketogenic diet it is going to help with tracking macronutrients such as net carbs protein and fat so those are going to be the types of things that you’ll see there and and it also is calories based it is not a byte space plan so you’re not tracking using bytes you’re strictly focused on those macronutrients that are related to following a ketogenic diet so the next plan is sugar smart it is similar to better balanced and that it is a byte space plan but it’s you can use that on the free version you don’t have to pay for the sugar Smart Plan and it takes into account macronutrients calories saturated fat sugar and protein and assigns appoints or Oh bytes value based on those macronutrients so this is good for people who are wanting to limit their sugar intake okay so the next plan is conquer cravings and this is another byte space plan the macro nutrient is that it takes into account when assigning a bytes value is calorie satin fiber so you’ll notice that sugar carbs and protein are not included in the bytes calculation and yep so this is for people who are wanting to focus on portion control and to conquer those cravings that we all have alright so carb conscious is the next plan so you’d think to look at it that it’s similar to the keto keeping keto plan but it’s different in that it is bike space keeping keto it’s not byte spaced but carb conscious is and it assigns a bytes value to your foods taking into account macronutrients protein carbs fat and fiber which are similar macronutrients that are considered with a keto diet so this might work for someone who wants to manage your carb intake but you don’t want a an eating plan that is as strict as keeping keto where you’re tracking those net carbs macro fat and protein so maybe a good option for you if you’re not wanting to be strictly keto but you do want to cut back on those carbs and last but not least is calorie command this is the plan that I’m using calorie command is just straight of calorie counting it really helps you focus on accountability food is taken at face value every single thing you consume you track because it has a calorie content there are very few zero calorie foods except water and artificially sweetened foods may have zero calories but other than that everything has a calorie value and you are assigned a certain number of calories you are assigned a certain number of calories based on factors such as height weight gender and also how many pounds you want to lose in a week your activity level whether you are sedentary active very active so yes it is straight calorie counting and it’s really good for accountability so I’ll talk more in future videos about why I’m choosing this plan and I’ll definitely share how it’s working for me all right guys here’s a look at one of the bytes based plans this is better balanced but they all look very similar so you’ll notice at the bottom where it says daily allowances that just tells you how many bytes you are allotted for a particular day based on the macro nutrients that are counted that I’m come up with that number and there’s also a weekly allowance as well of weekly bytes that you are allotted so with the weekly allowance and the activity allowance once you have exceeded your daily allowance I tracked bytes will automatically subtract from your weeklies and your activity allowance and I think you can change your settings to tell the app which of those you want to take from first so if your daily allowance is 23 bytes and you go over that then it’ll automatically start deducting from your weekly in your activity so something to keep in mind so that means that the more you exercise the more bite you get and here’s a look at a non bite space plan and there are only two is keeping keto and calorie command that are not bites based this is a look at calorie command this is actually my profile so as you can see my daily allowance in calories is right there at the bottom and so that’s basically it with the non bytes base plans you’re tracking calories and of course with keeping keto you’re also tracking protein fat and net carbs alright guys so I wanted to tell you briefly about how the Fitbit and other activity is I’m incorporated into I track bites you’ll notice in the top left hand side of the screen that says daily activity so that’s the number of calories I earned on that day as a result of either exercise or Fitbit steps and that number is added to my daily calorie allowance so that’s basically how you earn more calories is by activity and then you’ll also see on the next screen that it says Fitbit steps once I have reached 3000 steps it starts to add calories based on how many calories I’ve burned through my activity and just so you know being able to link your device like a Fitbit or an Apple watch to the app is a pro feature so that is a feature of the paid version of I track bites just so you know and it’s not it’s totally not something you have to pay for it’s optional and here’s a look at how you can add various workouts to the app and based on what you add in the duration and the intensity level it will assign a calorie count or a number of calories to add to your total based on what you enter into the app so again it’s a nice feature you know if you want your exercise to help increase your calories for the day you can do that but I don’t always eat my activity calories I Bank them sometime yeah so basically you know I try not to see exercising more as a reason to eat more I do try to practice intuitive eating and then here this is just a look at how you can track your activity you just enter the information that asks for I think it’s duration and intensity level and then it will again give you a number based on what you’ve entered that’s it you guys alright guys I hope you enjoyed that look at the app I hope it wasn’t too confusing I tried to go into as much detail as possible without making it super long but I’m gonna share my progress with you guys I’ll definitely be sharing I’ll definitely be sharing about my weight loss journey like grocery hauls like I shared the other day but yeah so I’ll share with you guys how I’m doing and you know we’ll just see how things go I don’t have a certain timeframe within which I want to meet my 10 pound weight loss goal and I didn’t say so my current weight is 165 pounds and I want to lose 10 pounds I’m 5 foot 9 so I am tall I think 155 is a good weight for me it’s kind of it really I felt good it that way my clothes fit better yeah I think that’s a good weight for me so we’ll see you know at the rate I’m going losing a pound a week that means that I could be at my goal in 10 weeks which is just over two months so we’ll see how it goes hope you guys enjoyed this video thanks for watching again if you’re new here feel free to subscribe and I will see you next time bye
