Intro to the Keto Diet | Fridge & Pantry Tour

[Music] [Music] a lettuce wrap double hamburger you know so you step in and I mean you still can eat out on Peter just looks a little different hello thanks for the feedback from the first intro to keto and nutritional ketosis video it was fun driving around and putting that together and happy that it’s helping a few people out so I thought we’d continue obviously getting the fundamentals of keto down pat takes some work that’s kind of like constantly reference to this keto kung fu’ I think it’s like a it’s a mastery with different levels and it starts simple and as your journey goes the complexity will layer on and layer on and you can make it as easy or as complicated as you want but if you take a step by step it can be a lot of fun and it feels pretty natural along the way but of course keto what are we eating what are we eating in the Dodge house how do we grocery shop how do we go over uh preparing meals what is a basic day and week of food look like in the end the Dodge house for a couple keto kids take a look in the fridge we’re gonna go like MTV Cribs style we’re gonna do a walk through the fridge we’ll do a walk-through of our pantry and we’ve got some chicken wings in the oven right now but there’s like it’s not a lot of rocket science in here this is not a lot of like supplements and specialty products this is just a lot of regular food this is regular Whole Foods and we’ve got in this and a really good repetition with some of this stuff and then it’s just restocking whether it’s a hitting up Costco or Walmart we actually go to Walmart quite a bit just because it’s so close to a bus from where we live but yeah and of course but some common stuff that we’re keeping in the fridge we go through a lot of eggs you’ll find a lot of pedo bacon uses a lot of eggs and their recipes and anything that you’re gonna make out of a cookbook or youtube recipes tends to have a lot of eggs in it and we’re just doing a lot of traditional bacon and eggs and all of us and things like that so lots of eggs different types of peanut butter we tend to stick to some pretty basic stuff right now we’ve been on the craft just peanuts I suggest when buying a peanut butter you’re just looking for something with peanuts in it it’s very simple and easy to find the gifs and the Skippy’s and the regular crafts that are full of soybean oils and sugars and corn syrups and all kinds of stuff I probably have a few tablespoons of peanut butter a day so it is Henry a little guy on the floor but if you like peanut butter or nut butters in general keep it simple keep it organic keep the ingredients to a minimum right now we’ve got a regular a fatso which has got some cocoa in it and a variation of the gist peanuts with some sea salt which I’m not actually too nuts about but it’s in the fridge right now but yeah the craft just peanuts pretty solid if we do keep some raspberries strawberries or blackberries in the house at any given time I tend to save my berries for more of a weekend thing not too many but you know maybe anywhere from the I Tammy loves the berries one of our favorite pedo staples is the farm boy spinach and artichoke dip throw a few tablespoons of that into a casserole dish bake it up top it with some cheddar cheese give it AB royal phenomenal really really low carb high in fat and great for a weekend treat and I’ll show you what we dipping literally an empty netter cheese but always in shredded cheese in the fridge lettuce I tend to keep a few different types of lettuce in the house right now we got some baby spinach which all haven’t any meal I’ll have spinach with my breakfast I’ll have spinach with my lunch and then Boston Bibb lettuce is incredibly handy for doing tacos these these just peel off and you can use them as little lettuce taco shells you can make a quick salad out of them we tend to use the Boston Bibb or the butter style lettuce for more like a vessel when you’re losing less chicken wings always lots of chicken wings in the house mushrooms to pair with our steak of course tons of celery we go through a lot of celery hence the peanut butter always doing chopped up celery what else we have in here right now broccoli and asparagus you’ll see in carb manager and then just in nutrition in general broccoli is incredibly good for you great great fiber in your diet and you will notice that it’s kind of carb dense for a vegetable but it’s a fabulous veggie to keep in your weekly rotation I would say and then tons of romaine always going through a lot of romaine for Caesar salads I’m probably having Caesar salad probably five six times a week one of my big like thought I was gonna miss it keto type things with cereal and I I was really thinking else to have a hard time with dairy but going with an unsweetened almond breeze almond milk I mix this with a bit Akito granola or if I’m craving some type of milk alternative the almond breeze is phenomenal other staples ranae’s mighty Caesar fabulous for a Caesar dressing stock up at Costco no surprise there and we keep a lot of parmesan in the house bacon cheddar cheese Oh halloumi if you haven’t messed around with halloumi it’s a grilling cheese you can heat it up to high temperatures and it doesn’t melt on you Tammy and I swear this stuff tastes like pizza hutt you literally fry it up in some avocado or olive oil and it’s a great little cheesy snack you can pair it with a meal have it as an appetizer when some friends are over we have just cut up some cheese fried up always lots of bacon in the fridge I’m having bacon probably five times a week whether it’s a lunch or a dinner pairing I don’t think there’s anything else that’s kind of crazy because of the excessive amount of chicken wings chicken wings was one of those like staple keto meals when flipping so you got to find some sauces that work for you Franks does a lot of great low carb hot sauces we keep the buffalo in the house we also I don’t think we’ve got a full bottle of it but a sugar-free ketchup kinds does a sugar fruit ketchup Henry come on buddy you all right [Music] okay yeah he’s fine he’s fine but yeah so hot sauces sugar-free ketchups [Music] but yeah well maybe shift down to the fridge here oh and worth noting drinks so obviously what you’re drinking day to day on keto changes quite a bit we drink a lot of Perrier bubblies Lacroix and your carbonated sparkling waters actually got some chicken wings come check out our chicken just take a minute right here and take a Henry break so we do a lot of wings just like this these are tossed an olive oil salt and pepper garlic powder and paprika we cook them up honestly anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour they get nice and crispy zero carb nice way to get some protein in at the end of the day paired with a nice fatty salad that’s one of our literally keto staple meals that we’re probably having I’d say one to two nights a week we’ll take a trip over to the pantry the keto friendly treats and it’s made such a difference so this is just for all of our day-to-day baking snacking and food prep it’s full of everything that you would need to get through a solid weekly keto diet lots of almonds we buy a big pack from Costco you have a couple weeks yeah this is the that’s that’s our almond of choice that’s about 16 bucks or a bag lasts us probably three to four weeks but we love them this is keto God’s food if you haven’t found a bag of these yet this is another Costco by their little just hardened Parmesan cheese crisps we use them to dip step so that farmboy dip we will dip though visas like a chip will crunch them um yeah we will crunch those up for like a crouton on a salad I’ll have them as a quick snack at lunch if I need something crunchy there I think fifteen chips for one net carb fabulous keto snack and then other kind of staple things that we keep in the house lots of olive oil notes no crazy science about it they always just say stick to a dark bottle lots of coconut oil which is primarily to help with baking and things of that nature avocado oil so kind of our three primary oils this stuff recently recalled from Canada but that is the best cereal granola alternative that we can find about two yeah yeah Julian bakery is a pretty solid brand a little bit pricey depending on what you’re getting but that’s two net carb for a peanut butter cluster granola variant with some of that almond milk awesome a few more things that we keep in here we’ve got some cauliflower cauliflower crisps that were ordered from neutral markets and a few kind of protein bars and snacks these are a Conklin protein bar pretty low in carb good for lunch and things of that nature lastly what I’ll show you down here and a shout out to sugar daddies downtown gulp but the Buster rhino’s pork rinds are phenomenal I was never into pork rinds before but you can chop these babies up and use them to dip and like a hell of a good dip or that farm boy dip good for a crunchy snack and it’s an alternative to a bag of chips an incredibly low carb tri tri pork rinds of you these are the cauliflower things we prefer the Italian herb and they are pretty much like no carbs at all so total carbohydrates is two dietary fiber there’s two so that is zero carbs a few more staples that I’ll show you maybe in more of the baking spectrum we bake with a lot of pecans we had to order stevia drops on Amazon but this comes up a lot in keto baking recipes that you want liquid stevia so we had to order some of this stuff sweet drops also cocoa powder a low-carb cocoa powder once again all the help with baking and then of course in the back there we keep coconut flour and almond flour we go through a ton of almond flour makes a fabulous cinnamon cake that will show you some time but it’s all almond flour babies they’re the only other crackers so these are very expensive they’re about almost I think they’re almost $20 a box but they’re the closest thing to a cracker that I have come by and Parmesan is my favorite Zakhar Zac is not allowed to touch these various things that have helped in the kitchen if you don’t have and these are really simple things but incredibly helpful if you don’t have measuring cups you gotta get some measuring cups for the house this is a bit of a specialty product but you can get a food scale in other cheaper fashions we have a digital one that we’ve had for years but you can get them just like a plastic one I think even from the dollar store Walmart or the surplus but this helps incredibly when you’re just learning about food portions because now that you know what your macros are looking like you’re using carb manager you need to know how large that portion was that you just had and I found the most accurate way to do that is to weigh my food whether you’re weighing by gram or by ounce so it’s been a regular practice of mine if I’m getting my protein ready at night and I want to make sure I’m having 4 to 5 ounces of chicken or steak or hamburger or whatever it is I’ll throw it on the scale even like a chicken wing like for instance one of those little chicken wings in there you’re getting you know maybe one to three small bites out of a small chicken wing like that how many ounces of meat is that you know if you’re not calculating yeah sure you know you’ve had 10 chicken wings but those 10 chicken wings may only be 3 to 5 ounces of meat and then all of a sudden you’re having too much or too little of your protein or fat so finding ways to measure and portion your food whether it’s with measuring cups like this of course even just some typical kind of measuring spoons I know this is simple stuff but I never thought about my food like this before I’m now measuring everything that I weighing most of what I’m eating and I don’t need to do that so diligently anymore because once you’ve done it a dozen or 20 times you now start to know okay that’s how big four ounces look like that’s how much a tablespoon looks like and all of a sudden you start to kind of have a stronger knowledge of your day to day in the kitchen another quick concept to throw out is Bullock coffees I thought this sounded pretty gross when I first heard about it like blending oil and butter into an already black cup of coffee which took a bit of getting used to to begin with with the black coffee on its own yeah it didn’t take the bullet coffee right away but as I mentioned it’s it’s levels of complexity when you’re getting an Aikido and I found that I was having a hard time hitting my fat macros in a day and instead they’re trying to squeeze it all in on a meal you could mix a bowl of coffee and next thing you know he’s picked up 2030 grams of fat just from a snack period or a quick cup of coffee and after a few I’ve got used to it and actually kind of crave it now and all I do at home for mine you prepare your coffee and a larger mason jar or mixing jar like this I use an mct oil hopefully you can see that that’s worth about 15 grams of fat per tablespoon so I’ll put in a tablespoon of MCT a tablespoon of butter everything will go in there with let’s say a liter of coffee or so whether it’s freshly ground under your Keurig whatever you’re doing and then I use an emulsion blender like this this guy was on Amazon for about 25 bucks came with some nice baking adapters as well blend it all up and boom you’ve got like 30 grams of fat in your day and you didn’t have to wait to have that with so check out bullet coffee’s there’s so many different ways that you can modify them you can put in cinnamon and salt and protein powders coconut oils so you can find a coffee that you like and a fat content that you like mix it all up and find a mix that works for you but it’s been incredibly helpful just wrapped up the delicious chicken wing dinner and realize forgot to walk you through sometimes the PS do resistance our freezer so our freezer is normally just stocked with protein all of our meat all of our good wholesome animal-based proteins and good healthy fats where it used to be boxes of president’s choice chicken strips McCain’s fries a goes mini pizzas we’re now bringing in a grass-fed grass-finished meat order from green pasture farms roughly once per month for around 100 to 135 dollars and we are getting spoiled with some of the best protein around I note that it’s grass-fed and grass finished some meats will be advertised in the grocery store as grass bed which kind of implies that the the cattle or the animal has a better more natural light eating grass versus corn cows don’t want to eat corn but the concept of being grass finished means that that cow was most likely on a free-range farm eating grass his entire life right up until he would have been slaughtered and then prepared for for our delicious dinners and thank you to all the cows and chickens out there they don’t walk you through a few of the things that we have in our freezer right now once again shadow to green pasture firms you can find them on Instagram but what we’re currently sitting on some chicken legs and chicken thighs once again boy boil in the oven roast in the oven throw them on the barbeque pair with a nice little car veggie like asparagus or broccoli that’s a fabulous dinner right there lots of different pork stuff we brought in some side bacon that you can see some pork chops which I really just started getting into wasn’t much of a pork chop guy before I’ll just throw those on a flat flat iron ironing I can’t speak a frying and those are the water frying pan for garlic sausage lots of good stuff lots of our beef as well as t-bone steaks beef sausages beef burgers we could use a lettuce wrap hamburger lettuce wrap cheeseburger throw some cheese and bacon on it some ground beef as well let’s turn to our favorite ground beef it’s frozen right now but we’ll turn that into a big batch of taco me use some of that Boston Bibb lettuce have a fun taco night we love doing that and then always buying our Kirkland bacon from Costco I think we buy four packs at a time for 16 17 bucks works out to be cheaper than buying at 1 pound at a time but of course always lots of bacon in the house final shout out keto connect I mentioned Matt mega before on my first video but these two are phenomenal I encourage you to check out their YouTube channel you can find them at keto connect this is their first cookbook I actually just recently found it in the mall it is chocked full of all kinds of delicious recipes and I would really really encourage that join the grocery store in a new way but it definitely it takes some discipline I hope you guys are excited to continue to try these new foods and options and we will see you on the next video I think no I’m not touching that stuff are you going entering very interesting crap [Music] [Music]
