HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT ON KETO | My lazy keto weight loss story


[Music] good morning my name is Amanda also known as Kido Jinja on YouTube and Instagram today I wanted to do kind of a reintroduction we have a lot of new subscribers and new friends here in our weird little family and I realized that it’s been a while since I’ve kind of talked about my story and how I got to this point and how I’ve lost 120 pounds on Kido I’ve kept it off for well over a year now and I’ve never felt better in all of my life I realized that a lot of people have questions about Kido because there’s so much conflicting information on the internet about how to do it why to do it so on and so forth what I want to do today is basically tell you why I started the keto diet how I started the keto diet and how I’ve gotten to the point that I’m at here now sharing the gospel if you will about keto and why it has changed my life in so many ways I hope you’ll stick around I hope you learn a few things and if you have any questions I hope that you’ll leave them in the comments down below if you are brand new to learning about the keto diet I do a version of keto that I sometimes referred to as lazy keto or dirty keto what that means is that I am all about my net carb count I do not consume more than 20 net carbs in any given day but I also do it in a way that is affordable and budget-friendly for my family I do not always eat organic I do not always eat grass-fed this that and the other thing because I can’t afford it I’ve been able to lose weight with sticking to low-carb and keto friendly products and ingredients without breaking the bank so let’s get this ramble going shall we I want to start with why I started the keto diet weight loss is the easy answer but that’s not why I started weight loss is merely a symptom of eating on a low carb and ketogenic diet what that means is if you keep your carb count really low and you eliminate processed food grains flour rice bread sugar if you eliminate all of those things you’re going to lose weight so as great of a benefit and as much of a trophy as the weight loss has been that isn’t why I started I have an autoimmune skin condition known as HS HS is a condition that your body basically produces cysts that are inflammatory all over your body and it’s extremely painful I’ve suffered with this my entire life it started to get really bad when I got pregnant so when I got pregnant with my first son Lincoln my HS started to get really out of control it was extremely painful it was extremely embarrassing I was ashamed of the skin that I was living in literally I started doing a lot of research and the keto diet kept coming up because it’s an anti-inflammatory diet so that means for a lot of autoimmune disorders from skin autoimmune to many others an anti-inflammatory diet can help turn around a lot of those conditions that is the main reason that I started keto was to see if it would help get my skin condition under control I was also battling depression anxiety insomnia ADHD many ailments that I’m sort of embarrassed to talk about but I feel like in this space it’s my responsibility to be completely candid and transparent with you guys so I started keto because of HS as I continued my research and started gearing up to get started there were countless testimonials of people that had turned around their depression their anxiety their insomnia and countless other ailments I was excited to get started when I first started eating ketogenic lean the first thing that I was an improved source of energy the first week was a challenge because I was just trying to learn my way and I had been mentally addicted to sugar and processed food for many many years it took me a while to get into the groove but after about a week of eating low carb I had boundless energy I would wake up in the morning fully rested fully refreshed ready to start my day I tell people all the time and this sounds like a crazy thing but I almost felt like I was taking caffeine pills or some kind of extracurricular activity because I had so much energy I had never felt like that in my life I had spent years with no energy just wanting to lay on the couch all day long feeling sad feeling depressed feeling very just sad and tired so that was the first thing that I noticed I started dropping weight on the scale immediately my first week eating keto I dropped 10 pounds 10 pounds in one week that just showed me that I had been ingesting all of these ingredients and foods that my body just didn’t want inside of it that first week changed my life here’s how I got started first I started with research before I ever began eating ketogenic Lee and eliminating all of these unnecessary carbohydrates from my diet I was a research maniac I watched a lot of YouTube videos by some of the people that were most renowned in the nutrition and health industry regarding a ketogenic diet Maria Emmerich Thomas de Lauer dr. Eric Berg and dr. ken berry or the first videos that I started watching to educate myself about why the ketogenic could have could be right for me they were the people that made it make sense and explained it in a way that was simplified enough that I didn’t feel overwhelmed you will come across a lot of conflicting information Quito is different everyone what works for you may not work for me and vice versa that goes from everything from ingredients to your carb count and many other individual little tidbits my best advice when you are starting is to make a plan start doing your research get yourself truly educated on why running on ketones is so ideal so you truly understand the science behind why you are starting this way of eating once I had my research under control I felt really enlightened it is just something that made sense to me and clicked for me so once I did my research then I made a plan my plan was going to be to write out a week’s worth of ketogenic meals that I was going to stick to I was not going to eat off of that plan for even one second and I did really truly simplified low carbohydrate meals so that I didn’t have to spin out about tracking and counting my macros and all of that that whole tracking system works really well for many people for me personally it was very very overwhelming so this is what I ate on my first week on the ketogenic diet I am not a huge breakfast eater but I wanted to make sure that I was fueling myself with plenty of fat rich foods so that I wouldn’t feel hungry throughout the day so the first week for breakfast I did a cup of bulletproof coffee then nothing until lunch for lunch I typically ate a nice big salad of romaine lettuce with a protein on top so chicken or steak it’s a little bit of tomato some cucumber and some ranch dressing I did that for lunch everyday the first week for dinner I would do a protein and a vegetable so a hamburger patty with cheese and some broccoli or a small piece of steak like six ounces and a serving of broccoli or a small house salad that is what I ate every single day for the first week and I lost ten pounds I was full I felt like this was something simple that I could do and I felt like other people could do it too after the first week I started to play around with a lot of different foods and options I started introducing things like almond flour and I started introducing some of the pre-made keto treats and snacks and I realized that I stalled a little the second week I didn’t lose quite as much because I introduced those treats too quickly so I cut all of those out I used a really reliable macro calculator and I figured out my macros then I tracked for a week to find out where I was getting hidden sneaky carbs I tracked for a week or two just to understand how large my portion should be what I should and should not be consuming and which foods stalled me after that couple of weeks I stopped tracking cuz like I said it did get really overwhelming for me if tracking works for you I am thrilled I wish that I could be more disciplined to track everything that goes into my body but after all this time I just kind of know what I can and I can’t eat I know when I’m running on ketones because I can feel it I feel more alive and more healthy than I ever had in my entire life the hardest part for me about adjusting to a ketogenic lifestyle was learning what I no longer ate so what I mean by that is I was conditioned all of these years like many of us are when we are on a diet as to what we can’t eat and I hear that a lot with newbies on keto where they’re frustrated because all they’re focusing on is the list of things that they can’t eat I had to flip the script for myself so that I could stick to it and instead of focusing on all of the things that I couldn’t eat I started looking at it as what I don’t eat that did something psychologically to my brain where I was no longer feeling deprived it wasn’t that I couldn’t have these foods it was that I did to eat these foods not anymore and that was a huge game-changer for me it really made the click in my brain that okay Amanda you are doing what is best for you and you no longer eat these foods and that has stuck with me all this time if you are just getting started on the ketogenic diet my advice to you is to keep it simple research the lowest carbohydrate foods that you can and eat those until you are completely full everything from eggs to bacon certain lunch meats sugar free of course salads broccoli find your favorite foods that are low carb stock your house with them eat them until you are full as time goes on and you start to run on ketones you are going to find that you feel full with a lot less food than you did and then you can start to kind of tweak your numbers and pay more attention to your total carb count and also your calories calories matter no matter how you are eating if your ultimate goal is weight loss you cannot consume more calories than you are burning off in a given day like I said don’t get crazy about tracking but if you’re doing this for a while and you’re steadily losing weight and then all of a sudden you hit a stall and you’re not losing weight you may need to adjust your caloric intake and you may need to eliminate some of the keto treats and sweets artificial sweeteners are not made equal they do not work for everybody some people can eat artificial sweeteners to their heart’s content and still drop weight like crazy some people cannot so that’s something over time that you may have to tweak the only artificial sweeteners that I recommend are erythritol monk fruit al uos and occasionally Splenda they’re gonna come for me with pitchforks for saying that but I can still eat things that are sweetened with Splenda and lose weight that may not be the case for you it wouldn’t be my number one recommendation but when you are starting this way of eating the artificial sweetener thing is something that you may have to tweak once I was in ketosis for several weeks I started playing with intermittent fasting and that’s the way that I eat now that means that when I wake up in the morning I consume nothing but water and coffee until around 1:00 p.m. then I have a nice lunch which is still usually a salad with a protein and then I eat a nice sized dinner that means that my eating window is somewhere between 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. every day and all of those other hours of the day I do not consume anything but water and black coffee this is what works for me I find that I am not hungry in the morning and if I’m not hungry I don’t eat that should carry through for you with every step of the ketogenic diet if you are feeling like you do not want to eat food don’t eat it long gone are the days of eating 19 meals a day and that’s the way to keep your metabolism going that is not accurate information especially if you have weight to lose your body will lunch on the fat that is hanging out in your body as long as you don’t keep filling it with unnecessary superfluous food so if you’re not hungry don’t eat if you’ve been with us for a while you’ll see that I make all kinds of keto friendly baked goods and really elaborate indulgent meals yes I have eaten these the whole time my portion control has changed over time I was able to eat a lot more in the beginning and still lose weight because I weighed 260 pounds now I weigh 150 pounds and I have to kind of watch my portions a little bit more to stay at this weight I’m in maintenance right now so I’m definitely playing with a lot of new foods and trying to kind of figure out what my perfect caloric intake and carbohydrate intake is to stay where I want I want to circle back around to my why I got started who when I got pregnant with my first son I gained almost a hundred pounds I was miserable I was uncomfortable and I was having a really hard time having energy to care for a newborn when my first son was 3 months old I got pregnant with my second son surprise I gained a good 40 more pounds and I found myself in a place where I was the heaviest that I have ever been in my entire life I was a great mom then I adored them as I still do and it took everything that I had every day of my life to have enough energy to care for a toddler and a newborn fast forward a little bit to when my children were 2 years old and 3 years old and they both got diagnosed with autism so both of my sons are on the autism spectrum now being a mom is hard and being a mom of two toddlers is hard no matter what law in life you’ve been given with both of my sons being on the autism spectrum and that meant that I had to mom and advocate harder than ever before I had to basically become a bully Bulldog of a mama bear to be able to get them all of the services and things that they needed to really thrive my weight was hindering my ability to be active for my son’s I couldn’t keep up with them I couldn’t chase them around in the yard I couldn’t carry them around on my back I just felt like I wasn’t giving them every version of myself that they truly deserved and I knew that something had to change so they are a massive part of my why I wanted to have more energy for them I wanted to feel more alive I didn’t want to feel like an old tired depressed mom I didn’t want their diagnosis to consume me into a pit of depression and despair I wanted to feel powerful I wanted to feel empowered to be able to get them absolutely everything that they needed to be their best selves in an order for me to do that I had to be my best self as well so my son’s getting diagnosed with autism was a huge factor in me taking control of my life they are doing amazing and it’s just been absolutely life-changing for our family now I got to my goal weight a little bit over a year ago I’m coming up on my two year anniversary of starting Aikido and to say that it has changed my life is an absolute understatement I have never felt healthier I’ve never had more energy my autoimmune skin condition is in complete remission I have not had a flare-up in over a year I’m pretty proud of it you guys I feel really proud and it makes me emotional because I just flashback to having two little babies and knowing that I would get winded just walking to the mailbox I would get winded taking a shower I had to lean on the shower to be able to wash myself well those feelings of self-loathing that came along with that were just more than I could handle I will be forever grateful that I made the decision to learn about the ketogenic diet and for all of the people that have been out here on the grind educating the masses all of the doctors that basically tell Big Pharma and big food up yours and are preaching the keto lifestyle and educating the masses I am forever grateful I hope this video gives you a little bit of an idea as to how my Kido journey changed my life if you are new here welcome I hope you’ll stick
