Dr Klaper Interview Part 2 | Protein, Keto, Omega 3, Fasting and MORE!

welcome to part two of my interview with dr. Michael clapper if you have not seen the first part of the interview definitely go check that out first there’s so much cool information in that but in this one we talked about vitamin k2 bone density high fat vegan diets low fat vegan diets the ketogenic diet talked about omega-3s high protein bean pasta fasting and a whole bunch more as I mentioned in part one the audio is not the best I did what I could with the equipment I had there and in post-production here at home but if the information that is important so please just overlook any sort of ambient noises and just listen to the amazing information that he so kindly is providing with us so you mentioned protein is the you know the protein quality and the amino acids that we get from plant foods superior or inferior to that of animal meat and animal products of course is sufficient and if their risk of being repetitive here ask any racehorse ask any Buffalo if the amino acids they’re eating in the natural grains and grasses are consuming are sufficient to make a strong animal muscle of course it is complete in all plant foods so absolutely you did enough calories you’re going to get enough amino acids and again I’ve never ripped their diagnosis of amino acid deficiency from inability to absorb from the plant right so not to worry you know all the gorillas agreed perfect so I often posted I eat in a day videos and I you know I love doing them and a lot of the time what I’ll do is I’ll plug all the information into chronometer and you know we go over at the end the sort of you know if I feel my RTI’s and no surprise most of the time I hit a hundred percent of my RTI’s but I’m always met with the argument or the comments yeah but what about absorption you’re not absorbing all of that so what do you have to say that and again a couple things about these recommended daily intakes the RTI’s one they are purposely engineered the number they come up with is enough to assure nutritional super abundance in apparently and every human being walking the earth so they’ve built in this a large margin just for to make sure there’s a nutritional adequacy right but also they know very well then that every atom of selenium gets absorbed and so they also factor in into that number the amount of infinite natural he’s not going to get absorbed so there’s already in the in the RDI there so it’s nothing to stress about right and again these are statistical averages just because you only got 95% of cobalt believe me you’ve exceeded what your body really needs their surplus it’s been built into the numbers perfect so vitamin k2 this is I don’t know wouldn’t say the hot top but it’s definitely sort of come into light recently and it’s one of the arguments against veganism that’s you know of course we can eat natto for k2 but other than that there are not many sources of k2 in the in the vegan diet so k1 versus k2 is Kate do something that we have to be seeking out actively do we have to be wolfing down from natto in order to be healthy and have strong bones or or is vitamin K s absolutely not and we can talk about the physiology behind osteoporosis and building strong bones but the amount of osteoporosis we’re seeing now is skyrocketing due to our sedentary lifestyle not true vitamin K deficiency throughout history as people are working every day their bones stayed strong throughout their entire lifetime and vitamin K deficiency wasn’t an issue as long as they’re eating enough dark green vegetables to make a long story short when you eat dark green leafy vegetables you’re going to be getting the precursors of vitamin K very important vitamin for a blood coagulation etc but once you’re eating this kind of diet and you spawn microbes that are used to digesting plant fruits you call forth the strain of microbes that will take the vitamin k1 molecule and turn it into vitamin k2 for you so all the vitamin k2 that you’re going to need is really now produced by the microbes in their gut assuming you’re eating a regular helping of dark green vegetables and pretty much on a daily basis which all vegans and everybody even or not should do there should be something dark and green on your plate in a substantial amount kale chard barking fuss about bok choy etc doctor assistant well it’s there but a good helping of that and if you do bear on a daily basis the microbes you’re going to spawn will create the vitamin k2 for you amazing so yeah you mentioned osteoporosis and you know I talk to a lot of people that have been drinking milk all their life right and they come into adulthood and they find that they have osteoporosis they have low bone density and we had a couple questions on our Facebook group where people ask is this reversible can you can you gain bone density back absolutely thank you such an important question and I’ll go into the answer that I’ll remind your viewers if you go to my website dr. Klapper calm do ctor k LAPD are calm and click on webinars you’ll see a webinar there called healthy bones and how to reverse osteoporosis and I deal with all this in detail in my video healthy bones on my website that said what you just said is such a beautiful example of how the dairy industry hasn’t been masterful in convincing humans and the West that somehow keep drinking the milk of a cow equal strong bones and it obviously is not true for many reasons but the proof of it is and you’re safe that’s because drinking milk will not prevent osteoporosis osteoporotic is not a disease of calcium deficiency it’s not a disease of cow’s milk deficiency we’ve become sedentary we suspend our days after that I’ll gathering firewood working in the garden heavy tools and every time you do something physically you know well you stress the bones and the micro stresses of the bones are what makes the bully producing cells the osteoblasts and our new bone it’s just like your muscles you use the muscles get bigger you have to stop using them in the aunt Ruthy well that’s what’s happening in the point osteoporosis is not a calcium deficiency osteoporosis is disuse atrophy of the bones were sitting all day we should we eat we shouldn’t we travel to support work we simply watch TV we watch and that’s why our bones were dissolved yeah well the good news is that those bone introducing cells the osteoblasts are still in your bones even if you have osteoporosis so the answer to reverse me to start using your bone and stuff good little five pound weighted vessel my weight invest and grab a couple of feet pound hand weights go for a walk every day and that that steady repetitive strain as you walk will start strengthening your bones up get elastic bands I carry packages use your bones and they will get stronger and bone density goes up osteoporosis reverses but the answer is usually a bones to not drinking cow’s milk so not surprising what you said but lots of hope for people with low bone that’s amazing so there’s a lot of talk about omegas right now in in the sort of plant-based movement and it’s sort of come to light that we might have to incorporate an algae based DHA EPA supplement what is your thought on that can we get enough you know can we get enough ala from flax G ahem you know although Megan resources for our body to manufacture enough epa and DHA or should we be thinking about supplementing this what that’s an important question and I’ll try not to get too wonky in the biochemistry here we’re talking about these long chain fatty acids and the one that has the first double bonded carbon atom number three is an omega-3 fatty acid and your body uses for your brain healthy world muscles through drawer of yours and it’s important to take in enough and everybody should be how about a handful of walnuts every day tablespoon or two of ground flax on your oatmeal chia seeds these are wonderful and these dark green leafy veggies you have omega threes in them so absolutely people should keep a steady supply of these Omega threes going through their body Chris is it enough and the enough is not to prevent heart disease we’re talking about your brain brain has a lot of DHA in this long-chain omega-3 fat and there’s been some studies that long-term vegans as the years go by if they’re not consuming enough DHA they may wind up with either after fear the brain or downright dementia and there’s been some struggling reports and I’ve had a couple of patients with dementia long term vegan diets it’s got me concerned enough again we’re not living like our ancient ancestors who have been living wellness seashores and you didn’t see me every day and in huge amounts of greens if they forage we’re not living that kind of life and that’s why our DHA level might drop down and so because dementia is so serious um I take a veggie cap of omega-3 of DHA made from algae not from fish from algae most days of the week from 5-7 days we don’t pop you in one of these you’ll make it through you take the square the liquid so I think it’s a good idea to prevent dementia would I develop it anything a problem hopefully probably not but I just don’t want to take the chance it’s kind of an insurance policy so that’s why I’m perfect yeah dementia is clearly not a vegan specific yeah exactly no and I don’t know if you noticed but will this affect our our own manufacturing of EPA and DHA from ala if we didn’t believe so okay no there’s no real evidence to the other enzymes to be aware this a small amount of tiny amount right just kind of a baseline insurance format I don’t think enough to inhibit your own production so there’s a lot of different camps of sort of the vegan diet right you know there’s people that want to eat a completely raw diet they want to you people are trying a high-fat some even trying a ketogenic some do such you know just a fruitarian or super low-fat diet you know I don’t necessarily want you to touch on anything this in particular unless you want to but are there any benefits you know for us to be trying out these sort of fringes of the plant-based eating or do you think like you know she’ll be beating sort of a more balanced I guess is right in general if you’re a basically a healthy person you should be eating a normal balance whole food plant-based diets and that would be something like oatmeal porridge and fruit in the morning a little almond milk I would say and lunches and dinners big glorious salads hearty vegetable soups big plates of being green yellow veggies özil whole grains that your casserole Chili’s if you’re eating that kind of diet for most people that’s all you need to do there is no advantage to keeping the fat so low that you’re afraid there’s a sunflowers in there Rob yeah it takes the joy out of even eating should be a there should be a nourishing activity on every level it should not be an anxiety producing event if you are anxious about your nutrients there’s something that right in your approach to your overall diet yeah now that said as I said if you’re a normal healthy person on a serious disease now if you are one of dr. esselstyn’s patients whose arteries are so clogged up let’s go out a clinic and you get angina walking a half a block and you have taken that really if you’re in bad state yeah it probably shouldn’t be eating lots of avocados and nuts etcetera I grant that and say that’s why he’s very low fat but once those plaques dissolve away I don’t think that in takers it needs to be curtailed as severely I don’t think there’s any advantage I’m pretty dead set against the ketogenic diet so ketosis is a helpful state to be in for a few days a week short-term but to stay in ketosis week after week month after month and think the death spell feel normal I think it’s a grave error I think the logical problems so we could talk about if you want to but but the real advantage of vegan keto diet the vast majority of people who are basically healthy should eat the whole food to have a site that I mentioned and your body will know what to do it they’re all fed folks writing books and selling supplements scaring people but eat food evil plant food and enough quantities prepare properly chew it well and your body would be fine you mentioned atherosclerosis a like I was I was listening to a talk of yours on the way here and I you know I’ve seen the pictures of the you know arteries sort of window cut in or cut open or whatever and then pulling it out or showing it and you know I thought that would be a really really isolated case but the way that you that you’ve mentioned it was sort of like you just saw this the you know you saw happening all the time and and actually like physically pulling out a chunk of plaque out of someone’s arteries this is actually happening I yeah the pipes are getting clogged up for me too much you yeah you mentioned that you had sort of a lightbulb moment where you thought hey this looks a lot like chicken fat boy so facial yeah it’s good reason why it looks like chicken fat doctor exactly so you mentioned it might be beneficial being a ketogenic state for a short period of time and I’m guessing you’re referencing sort of fasting yeah in water fasting and it was a good part of your practice when you’re helping people and we know you know that it should extend and water fast should always be done with professional help extend more than for more than five days if you were helping is there any sort you know should should the average person like me or you know or crystal or whatever be practicing any type of fasting you know for health outside of that any sort of intermittent fasting or just you know not eating for extended periods of time lower calorie days what are your thought on that yes I believe there’s good benefit refraining from food staying in the constantly fed state they said that’s a thing that the constantly fed state it means you’re running around walking on high insulin levels which respond in information you have a particular type of floor our different fats in your blood it’s a good idea and they kind of reproduce what are each and foraging the ancestors a million years ago on the African savannah the other you could you can see that you know there might be frequent times when for five days you go by before you found that next berry bush with fruit on it and he’s intermittent faster probably a beneficial in the state to be you and during that time the body takes advantage of it it looks for a Callie to burn it by cleaning out cellular debris and throwing it into the metabolic furnaces phenomenon is called the oncology yeah and inflammation subsides it’s a beneficial state to be in every so often like say once a month people do three days for five days on water I think it’s a lovely thing to do or just as you mentioned delay your breakfast take the flight time fasting period that you’ve been and extended it all through the morning hours doing good eighteen hours of water only and and their desserts beneficial effects in the body as well we’re just learning about these but you know we too much too often eating has become a recreational activity yeah and we should honor it by enjoying those times when we’re not eating a good repair and regeneration Stephanie about any of those times very cool so there are some I know you’re not a fan of refined flours and you’re fine fair enough right I agree I not that I completely avoid them entirely but I’m only human but there are some some new foods on the market that I’m interesting to hear your opinion on and it’s these sort of like lentil and beam passes that are out there because I know that you know refined wheat pastas and rice pass and stuff they they don’t have a great effect on our honor you know blood sugar levels you know Arthur do you think that these are any better these being in lentil pastas sure yeah I think they’re lovely project and I think they’re better than your white flour pasta yet at the Italian restaurant you know you don’t need them three times a day but by and large if you’re going to be making a pasta dish well I think these are lovely they have you mentioned very low glycemic index and they carry a good protein wallet and yes nice yeah really like there’s all sorts of like it’s really neat with all the stuff is going out I mean it’s good and bad right yes my process for those foods and then there’s minimally yes just touched up this is a category just mental simple cause I think I’m gonna quote you on that I would say no I don’t eat processed foods I just even slightly touch down cool so I often turn to people like yourself like dr. Greger like dr. Neal Barnard Dean Ornish for advice for guidance and for motivation and I can’t imagine where you know people such as yourself turn to you know for motivation for guidance for Fredi the inspiration for I turn to the natural world I turn to my own body and the human body that I’ve been studying all these decades and what is the truth of this well I look at the athletes healthy healthy people and see what is the truth of that but I what have they been eating at all they’ve been conducting their lives and it’s usually very hard evidence but you know how you can take this to the max and and if we really got into diet you see that their food free process jump in there and you know that’s just the truth of it and then when I need scientific validation god bless dr. Michael Greger and I’ll look up one of his videos and I go right to his reference section and and see exactly he we referenced and I click on those references and bring up those original studies so I do a lot of back field research on these various topics and I have to pay homage to dr. Bernhard and dr. Werner shoes I had the courage to lead the way and so those are my those are my human mentors but these dr. Roger Bacon long ago said Oh physician if you want to know the truth of Health and healing go walk in the green world and there you will find the truths you need to learn and I’m a big fan of walking in the forest and just with me and sitting by a creek and listening to my own body and that’s really cool so with my audience and you know my channel I get a lot of people that are sort of new to the vegan diet new to a plant-based diet and some people you know they sort of just dabble in it but they’ll still have eggs for breakfast or they will still have you know the occasionally they’ll still have a bit of meat here and there or whatever they just can’t give up cheese or whatnot do you have any any sort of advice or encouragement you know to help push those people just that extra little bit or or maybe even why they should or shouldn’t I don’t know you’re not so this of course is why you and I are doing this interview it’s the quandary that all of us in the plant-based world are facing as the ice caps are melting and we see the destruction that large-scale production of animal flesh is costing us the plea is we are being told that every lower individual health the massive slaughter of animals and the destruction of the planet the lights were flashing adopt the plant-based diet we want to be healthy as individuals and want to survive as a species it’s time to adopt a plant-based value but is [Music] steak so I’m a complete pragmatist man whatever works I’m all for it and if someone the reducer torian’s if they can reduce the lead eating down to once a week wonderful that sure beats three times a day I’ll take that at this point and enter these amazing new media analog the impossible burgers and all this stuff and no one’s saying they’re the bastion of health care not protein powder and then oils and so I know that but but that nutritional deficit I feel is far outweighed by the benefit one on health there’s no cholesterol and you don’t have a new fight you see in the end their toxins when the antibiotics all the stuff at the Harrington meet in these plantations but the fact that it came from plants no animals were slaughtered no rainforest would cut down and I’m all for the if it helps joel macho man get off his meat beef burger and i’m to be possible that i am all for it and at their transition foods no one saying should eat and so once a week treat just to you just to please his taste but but it’s on a big fan of these transition foods on a big fan of reducing the meat whatever it takes to get people moving down that plant-based continuum I’m all for it and and so if I got someone with a big health concern with a high blood pressure diabetes you want to get rid of your diabetes when I but there’s a whole food plant-based diet or if you got out of a kids they got grandkids you want on the livable world for them then adopt a plant-based diet whatever ever port is open for them to hear that’s what I’ll do I’ll be through and hopefully I’m in the IceCaps and I move to this plant-based revolution so so I’m a big fan of whatever works and as a position I’ve played the health record really loudly but it’s someone who loves this planet who loves the animals all those amazing cool well I think that you know covers everything that I wanted to talk about today I mean we could talk for hours but you are a wealth of knowledge and you have a lot of your knowledge online so people can definitely find tons of your videos and your talks and everything out there I’ll put links down below you guys already know that you can check out his YouTube channel and website and everything thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me you are a true pioneer of this movement and of helping people get healthy and your you know your the amount of people that you’re helping is is so much greater than you even know because the butterfly effect is so strong and like I said I looked at people like you and you know dr. Greger and and everybody for for my information that I continue to pass on so yeah I just want to thank you for for being there for all of us and for being here today and talking with everybody in great service that you’ve done for all your viewers and I thank you for helping get this word out between thank you alright that is it for the interview thank you all so much for checking it out and a huge thanks to dr.
