Being Vegan During the Holidays

Being Vegan During the Holidays

So, there’s no denying that the upcoming
holidays center around food. Often this can be really challenging for people
following a special diet. Vegetarian implies that you’ll eat things that – just
not animal meat – but you’ll eat cheese, you might eat eggs, you might eat fish. If
you’re vegan that says no animal products whatsoever. I am vegan. So, I don’t eat any like meat, dairy, eggs, cheese – anything of that sort. Even if someone
else is making the meal they don’t always understand what makes something
vegetarian or vegan, so it’s sometimes it’s hard to trust their cooking as well – just cause a lot of those traditional meals do you have animal
products in them. Gelatin, which is an ingredient that most people don’t think
about – that’s gonna be something that’s in your jello and the marshmallows on
top of that sweet potato casserole. They do make vegan marshmallows though now. It’s a lot easier now than it probably was 10 years ago. I mean, food companies are becoming extremely accommodating for these diets. You can make almost anything
that you can you can imagine using various substitutes that taste, if not
exact, very nearly close. So if you’re hosting I highly recommend just reaching
out to everyone and asking if they have food preferences or even allergies –
because that’s the big one nowadays as well. I find that if you are the
vegetarian going to the person who’s hosting, they are curious about the
diet and that’s a great opportunity to offer to make something – like one of your
favorite dishes – and bring that and then that allows you to kind of talk about it
at the table and then you have something to eat as
well. It may not be as convenient, but it is absolutely doable and you can make it
easy on yourself.
