2016 NPC USA VLOG #8 | 6/17/16 | 6 WEEKS OUT! | BRANDON GERDES

and what’s up YouTube welcome to another episode of body geeks and another episode of my blog want to apologize for the delay the past several weeks I believe it’s been about a month since the last vlog I was trying to keep a weekly thing but sometimes life just gets in the way in the meantime I’ve managed to sell one of my supplement shops been working hard on my other one I have other business ventures that are going on things I’ve had to work on and still prep for a show while still being a good boyfriend to my girl taking care of our house take care of our dogs and spending time with friends and family I choose to do this I choose to compete I enjoy it and yeah it would be nice if I could just do nothing but eat sleep and train and just focus on these shows but the reality of it is you can’t like you have to have a life outside of bodybuilding you have to have a job you have to pay your bills and you have to be able to focus on all of it together and balance it all out anyways I want to apologize for not you know not having some content for you but at the same time I want to thank you for continuing to follow along those of you that are following on my Instagram and leave me comments and likes and stuff like that I appreciate it and this is the first time I’ve been very open about cropping per show and about the show that i’m doing i’m usually kind of a recluse i just hide out my corner of the gym and do my thing and then show up on stage it’s been pretty cool it’s been fun to actually see that I can you know motivate or inspire some people or I can provide information to help some people at the same time get motivation myself because I know that people actually care about high place in the show so I want to thank you for that so I’m currently sitting about six weeks out from the first show which is the muscle contest MPC Los Angeles championships if you want to go you can find more information on muscle contest com it’s in culver city at the veterans building and after that i’m going to be doing the muscle contests npc USA championships which is in las vegas now the first one is a qualifier for the second one the second one if I win is a qualifier for the pro rings to be in the ifbb pro league so where I sit right now I’m in pretty good shape i’ll show some pictures here for you guys and send about 223 to 225 pounds I’ve been a little bit higher sometimes post workout with some water and me been upwards of like 20 to 26 to 27 I’m not going to let myself get any heavier than 230 over the next 10 or 12 days or so so I’m still eating tralee high calories the video i made where i showed my diet foods eating mostly that a little bit loose meaning like i’ll throw in some cheat meals here they’re like a hamburger or if I want to have you know some kind of dessert or something I could have a little bit but all the moderation and all you know I’m conscious of it all I’m not just binging and eating on a bunch of crap I haven’t really buckled down and done a ton of cardio yet I’m currently doing anywhere from like 10 to 15 minutes of just high intensity cardio not in about high intensity interval cardio just high intensity meaning i’ll get on a Stairmaster a rower and i’ll just bust my ass for 10 minutes just to kind of burn some extra calories your empty metabolism up a little bit and hopefully help keep my weight close enough to my wig cap so like I mentioned before my weight cap is going to be 215 pounds on a stage at six foot roughly six foot and a half inch tall if I’m sitting about 225 right now and I get it’s about 2 30 I’m gonna have to lose that 10 to 15 pounds to make wait to actually be able to compete in this division otherwise they’re going to throw me in with the bodybuilders so my strategy or my plan for that is that I know how quickly I can lose weight I know how quickly I can lose fat and I can get in contest shape you know most of these pictures that I’m showing they’ve been with me you know just eating my regular kind of diet I’ve actually increased my calories a little bit to put some size on so that I have the muscle density before I cut for the show I really only need about three to four weeks to get in really good contest shape as you see for some of the pictures some people will be happy with the shape that I’m in now on stage let alone the extra mile that I plan to bring and what I see from other competitors so I know I have to have that national stage so I’m actually planning on spending the next 10 to 12 days still eating a decent mount of calories still trying to keep my weight up there to maintain at least 225 pounds or so not let it get over 230 and use cardio to kind of curve that to keep it down and then when I’m about four weeks out officially from the first show then I’m going to start increasing my cardio I’ll actually do a separate session so I’ll be training with weights in the morning and i’ll be doing a separate cardio session in the evening so i could break it up that way and then if i have to i’ll actually throw in fasted morning cardio eat a meal or two and then go work out with weights and then do cardio an evening or before bed as well so not afraid to work and knowing that I have to lose weight this time to come down to that weight class it’s it’s nice because I can do that with an ease of mind I could push myself harder with all that stuff versus before when I was a bodybuilder I was always worried about being big and full and so I’d get to a point where like I’m pretty lean but if I really start pushing it to be even leaner I’m going to be too skinny for bodybuilding well now it’s going to be very hard to be too skinny in this classic physique in fact i’m probably going to have to do that extra cardio and stuff just to be able to make weight to fit within the division so i’m hoping to bring just a very nasty condition and shredded look with my proportions of my lines and then display it well with posing on stage with my diet really what i’m going to do is start just cleaning things up so the cheats are going to start to go away you know a lot of you know even you around i eat relatively healthy food but for example one of my cheat meals the other day was korean BBQ with my girlfriend now obviously when you’re getting ready for showing you your closer korean BBQ excuse me which is mostly fats and you know sodium and all this stuff it’s great for bulking but it’s not very good for leaning up so i’m going to be throwing things like that out you’re probably thinking like hey asshole like I’m glad you can get crazy shredded for a contest by just cutting out crap but that’s not just the case I mean you’ve seen from my last video the type of foods that I eat that’s mostly what I year round so I’m kind of consciously dieting and if even if I’m eating junk it’s not like I just splurge like I know exactly how much I me I know exactly what’s four and I do it whenever I feel like I can I don’t just do it just because so that being said I’m also probably going to be cycling my carbs meaning I’ll have maybe two low carb days followed by a refeed where I’ll throw you know extra 100 200 grams of carbs in there still going to be heavy on the fats and moderate protein so I’m going to be using more or less you would call it a low-carb approach with some repeats to get ready for the show so I’m kind of excited for that because you have done carp cycles in the past they always work and this I would say is a very very aggressive carb cycle depending on where my weight is that you know it doesn’t matter if I’m crazy shredded but I’m still 20 or 25 pounds I have to lose 10 more pounds so from there I may actually go no carb and I may actually lower my fats down the next to nothing and basically to speedy protein and veggies for a while to just really deplete and suck everything down and squeeze every ounce of fat I carry off of me and then during peak week will fix all that and make sure that we’re good on stage I have been working on my posing off and on here they’re more or less like when I’m at home like a pose for five or ten minutes you’ll hear their I do have my routine already ready at six weeks out I’ve been practicing that so I have smooth transitions and have been practicing holding my mandatories hitting them so i feel comfortable with them that being said i’m going to be increasing that and i’m likely going to be posing for at least a half an hour with my cardio session in the evening it’s a good workout like its kind of cardio in it himself and you know one of the things that bodybuilders always said is that the more that you pose the more details going to show because you’re flexing a muscle and contract you eat is still working it out so the more you pose not only is the more confident you are on stage and the better you can display your physique but it can actually help improve the look of your physique as well so i’m going to be doing a lot of that so my day is going to look like sticking to a diet which i’ll probably get hungry working out once cardio once and posing ones i’m probably going to be spending anywhere from three to four hours a day in the gym at this point with the exception of my rest day or a day where I don’t need the car do you cut that in half basically so you know I’m already ready to go for for this the only thing I’d love to do i think is by my MPC card which i just kind of forgotten to do but I’ve already registered for the shows I already booked my hotel rooms already have my tanning or like organized and ready to go so the only thing left for me to do now is just stick with my plan and continue to go so thanks for watching thanks for following along thank you for the support and until next time you’re tuned into body
